I just found out last year that Rite Aid does this thing where they actually give away products every month-- actually, you have to buy the items at an actual Rite Aid store, then submit the rebate form thing, either online or through the mail, to get the money back. So far I've gotten ten free Soyjoy bars this way (perhaps they were more delicious because they were free), and I'm interested to see what their products are next month. Unless it's something you totally didn't need or use, I can't see why you wouldn't do this, just to try out new stuff or get things you already use for free (or, almost free, since you have to pay the tax). If you're interested in this, go to www.riteaid.com, then click on "Single Check Rebates" to see what they're offering.
Here's the thing about rebates, though-- I will get the stuff for free, because I am 100% sure that I am the kind of person who will take the form and the receipt home, fill it out, and send it in. This is only a good deal for people like me, and the store counts on this. If you're pretty sure you're going to lose the receipt, or not follow through on the submission of the rebate thing, I would recommend NOT buying things that realize their savings through the use of mail-in (or otherwise) rebates.
In case you're interested in the art and science of rebates (including a really interesting factoid about how Tivo kept an additional $5,000,000 in profit because so many new subscribers didn't send in for their $100 rebate forms), here's an interesting article.
